Won’t drain
Often a clogged filter or drain hose, a garbage disposal knockout plug, or a failed drain pump.
Dishes come out dirty
Check the spray arms and filter for clogs. Weak water supply, the wrong detergent or a failed circulation pump can also be behind it.
Leaking
The door gasket, a hose, the pump or an inlet valve may be the source. Where it pools helps narrow it down.
Won’t start
The door latch, a control board, the start switch or a power supply issue.
Won’t fill with water
Frequently a failed inlet valve or a closed water supply valve.
Not drying
On many models a heating element problem. Rinse-aid and loading habits matter too.

Things worth checking first
- Clean the filter at the bottom of the tub. It’s a common fix for dirty dishes and slow draining.
- If you have a disposal, run it to clear the drain line and make sure the dishwasher drain isn’t blocked.
- Check that the spray arms spin freely and the holes aren’t plugged with debris.
- Look at the door gasket for tears or buildup, and check the supply valve under the sink.
